Week 9 to 12

Baby can grab with her hands and looks more and more human.
Today it's February 25. I hate this tiredness, I really have to force myself into doing things, because otherwise I'd only sleep. I do hope this gets better real soon. On the positive side: it seems that I can control the sickness a bit as long as I eat frequently and not too much. This is what I wrote down on March 8, about the week: On Tuesday Erik wasn't home, he was out for his work and even though I prefer him getting home any time during an evening I did not really mind it. Bram seemed to have more trouble with his absence and required my full attention as compensation. On Tueday and Wednesday I forced myself into doing stuff and really got a lot done. On Thursday I had some houses to look at and that night I felt completely exhausted. After spending some hours in the bathroom vomiting I decided to go to bed early. I slept the whole night and did not even have to go to the bathroom, which had become normal over the last couple of months. This morning I woke up, still tired and sick. After getting started very slowly I begin to feel better now. Earlier this week I thought things were improving, guess I'll have to wait and see about that some more. We'll find out soon enough and it's only week 10 anyway. ;)

Today it's March 14 and I have loads to tell. I have regained some energy and I have to carefully dose it, because when it's up, it's really over and done with for the day. If I have overdone things, like a few days last week, I immediately get punished for that and won't be able to do anything substantial for a few days afterwards. But now I found that out, I can work with that. It also seems that at least some of my appetite has returned and even though I still feel sick most of the day, it seems to be less severe than it used to be. I'm going to be very careful with remarks like this, I have been proven to be too optimistic about them earlier. A few days ago I think I have felt the baby already, though it's extremely early. Of course afterwards I didn't anymore. Last Sunday and Monday were "new home days", yep, I did it again, I am pregnant and we are moving. Luckily this time it'll be locally, to a house in South Orange, a bilevel home, close to the train station. Erik's travel time will be 15 minutes less, each way (substantial), the home is free standing, located in a nice neighbourhoud and somewhat bigger than the house in Summit.

It is March 22 now and a few days ago we have been to the gynaecologist for our first checkup. A urine sample has been taken and my weight has been measured (with my clothes on, but shoes off). I was 147 lbs. Next to that they took my blood pressure, which was a neat 112/78 and some blood was drawn. My length has been determined into 5'10", which is always some calculating, because I only know the metric figure by heart (174 cm). After that we had a conversation about the fact that we indeed do have a slightly higher risk of having a baby with Down Syndrome than other couples in our age group. The chance is 1%. An ultrasound has been made, because it was not completely sure how far along I was. We turned out to have thought right on: a little over 11 weeks that day. We also got a picture of our extremely active 'bean'. It was again very special to see the baby so early, though it was of course not as new as with Bram.
