Week 37 - nursing

Back to week 37

Nursing

From Tuesday onwards I could start nursing Bram. Remarkably that went pretty smoothly. That was very nice of course, because apparently it is often more cumbersome when you cannot start right from the beginning, and on top of that children with Down Syndrome very often have difficulties with nursing.

Fortunately that turned out to be pretty easy. Initially we both had to get used to it, also because there numerous people that tries to help, which didn't help to relax me. Later on that turned out to be the most important trick: mummy first needs to settle down and feel relaxed. Because of that Bram feels happy, and things pretty much go automatically from that point onwards. Bram seems to prefer nursing over the bottle, he ad no trouble making the switch.

That night Bram received a bottle once more. Hospital staff thought it was not a good idea that I would interrupt my sleep that night to nurse Bram. Starting on Wednesday I didn't allow for that any more, and Bram only had to go to the nursery for checkups. On Friday we were told that he started gaining weight again, and the Monday after that (when I was home) he already had gained quite some weight.
