Christmas time

This has been a busy time. We had several celebrations, also at Bram's school. Christmas day we had invited friends and Frank (Erik's brother) was here as well. We had a really good time, Bram and Vera as well, because our friends had brought their 3 children.

Frank came mid December and he was put to work just about right away. We did not have a range hood in the kitchen, so a lot of dishes were impossible to make without having the house smell of them for a week or so. Now we have a microhood: this also cleares a lot of counterspace, for the microwave has gone. The difference is amazing.

Christmasday we were all well, the week before had been characterized by colds. Both Bram and Vera had to stay home from school for a couple of days because of this.

Sinterklaas celebration

This year we celebrated Sinterklaas more elaborately than previous years. First of all we were finally able to attend the klokhuis celebration. Previously Bram always had been too sick to attend and now we could go for the first time.

For Vera this was extra special because it was at her Dutch preschool. During this gathering Sinterklaas had decided to show up in person, which was really a bit scary.

Everyone sang songs, ate the special candy and the kids got gifts to unwrap.

At Sinterklaas eve Eriks managed to be home early and surprisingly enough, after dinner all of a sudden presents had fallen down the chimney and they were waiting in front of the fire place.

Bram and Vera enjoyed unwrapping the gifts. This year too Sinterklaas had been a tad too generous, for after unwrapping a few of the gifts, both Bram and Vera were really too busy playing with the new things ;-)

On December 6th Vera had regular preschool and Wilma then told the class a story about Sinterklaas. Obviously she had taken some of the traditional candy (special thanks to oma Annemie for importing these for us) for snacktime. All kids seemed to enjoy this a lot and Vera was really proud of her mommy showing up and tell the story.

Vera to the pediatrician for her yearly checkup

Today Vera went for her yearly checkup. It was so cool to watch her being grown up enough this time to actually cooperate. She did not need any shots and all tests had the rusult that was desired. The numbers: she now weighs 32lbs and is 39 inches tall.

Opa Karel and oma Annemie have visited.

For them too it was the first visit to our new home. They had had a view of the outside during their previous visit because we had made several trips through our new neighborhood. Forturnately they were not disappointed by the inside ;-)

We mostly had nice weather and we got a lot of help from them in the yard with some cleaning and pruning. That was very helpful of course. We also celebrated Thanksgiving together, which was fun too. The visit was over too quickly, looking back.

Something special: opa Karel had a "sick day" during their stay, which was very unfortunate for him of course. But Vera was so sweetly taking care of him ;-). At one point she got her toy phone and rang opa and oma Jangejaas (=Mangelaars) to tell them about his illness, but also that he was feeling somewhat better now whe was taking care of him ;-)
