Christmas at Bram's school

We were invited for music class with the whole family. All levels were together and it was wonderful to see how "at home" Bram feels there and how he takes part in everything.

At one point Santa came by and ALL children got a present. Bram and Vera got to sit with him when they got their gifts and there was enough time for picture taking.

After this there was a party with snacks and drinks. Around noon we could take Bram home and his vacation started. He doesn't need to go to school any more this year.

Checkup at the eye doctor

We kept getting good news: at the eye doctor's it was recognised that Bram's glasses are helping so well addressing the exotropia (see September), that nothing else needs to be done at this time.

He needs to wear the glasses as much as possible and the next visit will be in 6 months.

He usually is really good wearing the glasses, so HURRAY!

Bram has started school again

Bram went back completely happy. It was great to notice he was welcomed with loud cheering when he got on the bus in the morning.

His teacher told us he was extremely happy and that he adjusted back well to the classroom routine. We had imitated this as much as possible at home, but it was still a very great step for him to take.

He was wiped out when he came home, but happy at the same time. We were told that he never before had been this fit and alert in school, not even in the summer time. Finally a confirmation of the fact that I (Wilma) was not crazy or something when this summer I still had the feeling that "something" was just not completley right ;-)

Checkup at the ENT

Good news: the tubes are placed correctly and they are open so they should be functioning well. Also the bleeding has decreased well.

We now can get him slowly out of his "bubble" and on Dec 20th he can go to school.

Now we have to wait and see how things will develop. We will try not to use any medications. We do keep flushing his nose the entire winter though. This is to try and make sure nothing will get a chance to block the nasal passages again.

Bragging about Vera

Again we can brag about Vera: several times on different days she counted to 10, without any mistakes. She does this in english, but most of the numbers she does recognise in Dutch as well.

To make this complete: she also knows all the letters of the alphabet and sings the "alphabet song" almost flawlessly.

When you write down her name, she names you the letters and she knows it says "Vera".

Bram's surgery

Bram had his surgery on the sinusses yesterday and also the tubes in his ears were replaced. Fortunately this could be done as scheduled, for it looked earlier in the week that another sinus infection was going to spoil this occasion.

The operation went well, but it took 3,5 hours instead of 1,5 hours. This was because things were more complicated than expected and his doctor just did not want to take any risks. Because of this the whole thing was more major and took us later in the day, so the doctor wanted him to stay overnight. It was supposed to be same day surgery, but looking at him when he woke up, having hem there made us more comfortable as well. Fortunately he was allowed in a regular room and Erik spent the night there with him.

By now he is home again and doing pretty good. He is quite happy and obviously glad to be home. He will have to recover for some time, needs some aftercare, but now we can look forward again.
