Controle

Today both Bram and Vera have been seen by their pediatrician for a regular checkup.

Vera got a shot, which she completely disliked. Other than that she is doing great, nothing special other than that she is developing a tad ahead of schedule. She was 21lbs 8oz and 33,25 inches. So since 3 months ago she gained 1 lb and got almost 2 inches taller.

Bram also was doing great. Special about this time was that there were no strange sounds while listening to his chest and lungs. Before he had the operation, he always had a sound coming through there because his breathing was so congested. Now he sounded all clear and healthy. His ears were also great, so all in all a wonderful picture. He now measures 28 lbs 4oz and is 38 inches. Compared to his last checkup, 6 months ago he gained 3 lbs and 2,5 inches.

All in all this was a very reassuring visit, Vera has to be back in 3 months, Bram in 6.

Happy and hearing test

Today 2 items:

Vera for the past 2 days has been saying "happy, happy". I think she has picked this up from one of her favorite songs: "if you're happy, and you know it, wave bye, bye". She also has an extremely happy face on when she says it, which makes her look extra cute. It's not her first word, but worth metioning. Strikingly enough it came during these days that she is in fact not so very happy, because a few molars and teeth are at the same time on the verge of breaking through. They seem to be very painful.

Good news on Bram: this morning he had his audiology test. He was just as good as he was in July and that's remarkable for this being the cold season. We are waiting for the details in the report, but he seems to be hearing close to the normal range, with only a slight hearing loss. This is a good base for language development, which he is working on very hard. Almost every day he says something new.

The first 3 weeks of January 2004

Last week casts have been made of Bram's feet and legs. He needs braces because his walking is getting worse and worse due to instability and weakness in his ankles. His foot placement is completely off due to this as well. The fact that he gets less good at walking is very frustrating for him and in the long run also would be very bad for his joints and muscles, so we needed to take action here. In about 3 weeks the braces should be ready, so: to be continued.

Last week we also went for a checkup at the ENT. This meant half good news. The operation itself is a success, which is a good sign for the future. Unfortunately Bram did have a big sinusinfection and needed to be treated with antibiotics. GRRRRRR! There is a chance that once this is taken care of, he won't have as many in the future, but it is very likely that we (so he) will have to learn to live with the many occasions. But we need to wait this out first.

The coming weeks we have a few more things scheduled: both Bram and Vera have a regular checkup with the pediatrician scheduled, Bram's hearing needs to be examined again and he needs to have another sleepstudy performed. Fortunately there's also something good coming up: next month grandparents Karel and Annemie will be visiting us for a week.
