Eye doctor

Yesterday Bram has been seen by an eye doctor, a routine visit. Last time (January 2002) he had a little bit of astigmatism, which probably also means he didn't see absolutely perfect. This was still in the normal range however. Most young children have this and most of them grow over this. That's why he didn't need a recheck soon after, only after 2 years. Because the pediatrician thought it wise to keep these preventative visits in the months around his birthday (easy to remember), we went now instead of in January 2004.

This prooved to be a good idea, because his eyes did deteriorate. Right now he does not really need glasses yet (mainly because it's a big bother for them at this age), but we need to have him rechecked every 6 months now.

Vera is standing up

Since last weekend Vera can stand up by herself, she (of course) is very pleased with herself on this. She pulls or pushes herself to standing position and (of course) needs to hold on to something for her balance. Funny thing is that when she holds on to our hands, she makes steps. She seems to be so eager to walk like Bram does.

Audiology test

This morning Bram has been to the audiology department for a renewed hearing screaning. This time meant as a base to decide on when he'll get tubes. It's also a good reference for the speach therapy we need to arrange for him.

We never had such a good result before. His results on the left were not so good, his right ear is now so good however that he only has a very minor hearing loss. For speech development it is important how his overall hearing is, so that's why we only monitor the overall result. It probably means we can put off placing the tubes untill fall. For the speach therapy it means his hearing won't be an obstacle.

We will have to wait for the final reports and we have to discuss these of course with the doctors involved, but we did want to share this great result. He did well today!!!

Bram is walking!?

Today something new: Bram is walking. At least: I think we can call it walking. Just about all the time he is standing without support and taking a few steps. Very wobbely with stiff legs, but he is practicing and practicing. He'll do better soon we guess.

He's busy doing this since yesterday and he is sooooo proud, as are we!
